Two weeks ago. . .

. . . I decided to treat myself to a nice pair of in-ear headphones. The earpieces are elongated foam that's pinched down before inserting. The foam slowly expands, and the music gets louder. It makes the ear canal tingle, like someone is baking a cake in there.

This morning, I stepped out of my apartment to see the usually packed bus coming. It was empty. This is rare, so I pick up a copy of the Tribune to read while I sit. As I'm withdrawing the paper, the lid to the machine slams shut on the headphone cord, severing it.

I put the torn pieces in my pocket and moped to the stop.

2008 is reading my blog.
