Ten Questions about Dodge City.

The block of property at 1701 N. 14th Street is neighbored by Hastings and the Goodwill Store. Currently Orschelin's, name three businesses that occupied the same space.

How many intersections, across town, are regulated by stoplight.

TCBY is gone. Dairy Queen and Paleteria Rio Grande are the City's only ice cream shoppes. What was the name of the ice cream parlor/eatery that occupied the space in the Village Square mall that would later be The Brushfire Grill and Jalisco's Mexican Restaurant, respectively? (Hint: The sign hung for nearly a decade after it's closing.)

April 1st, 1939. Hollywoodland elite (including Errol Flynn, Olivia DeHavilland, Humphrey Bogart and Pricilla Lane) descend on Dodge City for the premiere of the movie of the same name. The showcase took place at the Dodge Theatre, which would close it's doors in 1997. What was the last film shown?

Extra Credit: In June of 1998, Mike Burkhart would re-open the theatre, showing classic westerns. Only five movies were ever screened. Which was the last movie? (Hint: The poster and marquee hung for several years after. Also, it wasn't a western.)

Where was Big Cheese Pizza located?

I'm aware of two occasions in which Dodge City mingled with MTV:

In a 1991 MTV News report, Kurt Loder would make mention of a homicide which took place in Dodge City. The story was receiving nationwide attention due to the defense of the assailants, claiming that listening to a song repeatedly triggered their actions. What was the song?

Former Remote Control host Ken Ober spent an afternoon at Boot Hill filming a segment for a short-lived MTV series. What was the name of the show?

Name one business that is/was ever located in the Eckles Mall. (You can make one up if you have to)

Actress Lila Leeds was born in Dodge City. Though unknown, she was at one time a rising Hollywood starlet until she was arrested for possession of marijuana along with what actor? (Note: An adaptation of this event was depicted in the 1997 movie L.A. Confidential)

When you tell people you're from Dodge City, what movie do most people recognize it from? (Hint: It's not a western.)

I am awarding some pretty bitchin' prizes.

And Vacation it is! In fact, it's pretty suprising if you meet someone under 40 who recognizes Dodge City's place in Cowboy Mythology.

Ms. Leeds got busted while she was hanging out with Robert Mitchum.

...and as soon as I found out you're from Dodge, I began looking for clues that you might be the bastard spawn of Dennis Hopper, rather than Clark Griswald...

Correct, on all counts. The fate of Lila Leeds almost rivals that of Frances Farmer. As wikipedia claims, after her bust with Robert Mitchum, ". . .on charges of marijuana possession on September 1, 1948. She subsequently spent some months in jail. Although she starred in "She Shoulda Said 'No'!" following her release from prison, her acting career never really recovered from the episode.

Cheryl Crane, daughter of Lana Turner, in her autobiography, stated that Leeds was introduced to heroin use while in jail and became a full-blown addict afterwards, and was last heard from working in a drug rehabilitation facility in the mid-1970s.

According to the Social Security Death Index Lila W. Leeds died September 15, 1999.

Mitchum would go on to lead a successful career.
